out now a new JD album called "Let the movie begin."
the tracks are a collection of old live material+ the first RCA recordings( refused by the band) + Ian,Steve and Martin Hannett interviews. All this material was first available on bootlegs .
THe sleeve is strange. It shows Ian on the firts plan on a movie screen with a threatening man behind him.We can think about a picture of an old expressionist film. It's a little bit unpleasant .. Frown .
An intreview is printed on the cd booklet.
....I don't remember the label name ?? Red sun records ? - something like that.

have you actually bought a copy? can't find it anywhere here. not even sure if I would buy it anyway.

review in Dutch paper last week:

Joy Division - Let the movie begin
star rating: 4

We are cautious awarding stars to this curious hotch potch. Because this Joy Division cd compiled by a number of fans consists of interview fragments and live recordings of the band, which ceased to exist after the suicide of singer Ian Curtis. Not suitable for beginners and even not that interesting for those who own all JD records, because of the dodgy sound quality at times. However, the real big fans and collectors will find this release very endearing. The interviews are fun, and those who can listen beyond the squeeky, crackling live sound will enjoy passionate performances of Shadowplay, Digital, and above all, Transmission.

I've had this for a wee while now, but to be honest I haven't lstened to it much after the first listening. The sound quality is a little too "authentic" for my palate.

I would say its definetly a CD for Collectors only. Interesting design though and I notice it's released by a belgian company called intersound recordings.

Incidentally I think its well distributed and available in all good records shops and HMV as well.

I just got this CD yesterday. It's nice to have since most of these boot songs I only had taped from a college radio show circa 1987. The interviews are nice to have as well. there's a mistake on the track listing, though as "at a later date" and "passover" are inverted. I bought mine from darla.com a great site that carries all the LTM reissues as well.

cheers

ther's a lot to say about Ian Voice and Ian'singing. He was a kind of an actor, changing his own voice. His lyrics were really interpreted, may be much more than only sung...
When i first heard him i didn't know he was so young. He had this low voice, or...i don't know how his voice was, but u didn't imagine a young man singing punk rock or simply singing rock songs. It was really something else.In a way it was a little bit frightening.
when we hear him speaking, things, obviously are different: it's the young man that we hear. Not the singer/actor...Not this strange guy moving like Conrad Veidt in an old Murnau 'movie
not a character in his own movie...
BUT WHO WAS HE , REALLY ? AND DID HE REALLY KNOW THE ANSWER HIMSELF ????je crois pas.
