Yo, sorry I'm not answering those questions but my copy of BM on 12" might be rare... in that the labels on the disc are the wrong way round. The etching on the inside of the record clearly state the correct side (FAC73A3/B3), yet the label stating 'The Beach' plays BM and vise-versa.

Anyone know if this was a common issue??

i'm interpreting this as unofficial since you break it out in the officials in #3.
i've a spot in my heart for the TOTP mix. it's different enough than the original.
if you're referring to remix or mash-up, i think Kylie's Can't Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head has been the best thing this side of '95 that happened to the song.

'88 for it's conciseness. captures the true essence without excess.
4. Should a 2008 release have been pumped out?
no. it's been mixed in so many different ways that it'd be hard to reinvent the song.
5. Would you call it a 'classic'?
miranda sawyer sums it up as being like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody , where you anticipate the parts of the song, and then she laments making the comparison as it's such a better song than BR .
so yes, i agree with her and with Steven for calling it epic. it is one of the best songs of the decade and the genre. a true classic.

recent memory: discovering the original video for Blue Monday on YouTube. that was a nice treat. i sooo prefer it over the standing around, weimaraner-filled, better know vid.
