One New Order concert that stays in my memory was Sheffield Roxy back in June 1987..Started With The Perfect Kiss and played BLT ,Touched.. , Temptation etc. The show ended with a great Do The Ostrich which they were playing a bit in those days.Brilliant song!.I think it was Hooky if i remember right, holding a tape recorder up to the mic playing snippets repeatedly from Star Trek or something. After the gig i was facing the prospect of roughing it at Sheffield railway station over night till my train home in the morning. However i got talking with some New Order fans.We took the (insane?) decision to walk to Chesterfield where they lived instead of roughing it on Sheffield statin. The walk was about 12 miles and i was fucked for about a week after. What is The Roxy these days?.Is it still a nightclub and venue?

This was a couple of years before my first gig, (I was only 12 in 87) but I have this concert on tape, and it's a cracking gig! Throughout 87 New Order were on top form live, the Roxy, Finsbury, Wembley Arena are all tapes I treasure in my collection from 87

funny - I had forgotten all about this gig until I read the post. Living in Sheffield then, and knowing I did not have to worry about getting home I proceeded to obliterate myself on Newcastle Brown Ale - not my drink of choice but the lager was something else. By the time they did Ostrictch I was os far gone it began to make sense!
The place is still there, no idea what it is called, used to be the Top rank in the 70's home of some great gigs and where JD supported Buzzcocks many many years ago.
an all time fave of mine as bernard when doing the perfect kiss threw his drum stick into the audience when playing the tin bit during the perfect kiss and was caught by myself , also recall do the ostrich as part of the set circa 1987 i think .excelllent gig in a smallish venue.mainly brotherood/lowlife setlist.

Yeah Do The Ostrich always did make more sense when you`re pissed!.Bernars always did that thing when he was singing it (and on some other songs too) when he would stick his right arm out defiantly and pull his shirt sleeve back as if to show off a tattoo though as far as i know he doesn`t actually have one or didn`t in the Ostrich days. I think i read somewhere that Do The Ostrich is a cover of a Lou Reed song?. Ah 1987.. those were the days!.I went to the Wembley Arena gig as wel but the Roxy was much better.

That is a bit spooky!.If i hadn`t madly decided to walk to Chesterfield wi the lot i met i probably would have claimed the photobooth as my accomadation for the night.

Don't wanna boast kids, but I actually saw JD and the Buzzcocks back in 79 at the Top Rank, which became the Roxy and was there at this gig as well, though then I lived in London. It was the only time I ever heard em play All Day Long and I seem to recall they made a bit of a mess of it, bless 'em. Best gig I ever saw them play was December 85, Central London Poly. Tiny little place, they were bang on form, played most of my faves and I met this gorgeous little blonde...

The Roxy is a bit run down these days. I don't even know if it is still a club. at least I never went there when I was living in Sheffield in 2004. At first sight I thought it is called ROY because the X is missing on the building.

The Roxy is now a gospel church!!
I had a ticket for that gig but flogged it 'cos it was the night before my Chemistry exam!
I passed the exam but have always regretted not going.

Just been surfing around and seen this post about the Roxy. I to remember it well for different reasons. I was managing a band at the time and it was to be our first support with New Order. Everything was sorted and then I got a phone call from Rob who said you are not doing the Roxy, the feeling of disappointment when Rob said that we are not doing the show I was so pissed off. Why what’s happened Rob? Well we have given the gig to Pure. But I said Pure are doing Redding? Not anymore he said. Why is that I asked? Well we have had a band meeting and decided that Pure are so thick that they couldn’t find their own way to Redding from Manchester. That’s great I said we lose the show because they are thick? Nope Rob said your band is doing Redding instead. That’s the way Rob always did things, ever wind up merchant.
